Dirk Jonsson

Having only been photographing for 18 months, Dirk Jonsson very quickly found his way to infrared photography. From the very beginning, the 51-year-old had a special interest in photographic techniques such as panoramas, HDRs and long exposures. Infrared photography offers him the opportunity to rediscover familiar things and simply give a different perspective on things that have already been photographed so often. He is aware that the effect of IR images, like HDRs, can be dulled if the effect is used too often. So even if he is now always on the road with one more camera, he forces himself to show the IR images sparingly.

He prefers the expansive landscapes of Schleswig-Holstein as IR motifs. The right sky is very important: there has to be a lot of structure in the clouds! This is how the IR effect comes into its own. To add color to his images, he decided to use a 700 nm filter. This provides subtle but unmistakable colors.
