Oh, winter pictures? No, you don't see any snow.

Under the unifying motto "Of magical places and other wondrous things", the Kunstverein Stade is also showing works by Jork-based photographer Petra Albers, created with an infrared camera, as part of a double exhibition at Kunstpunkt Schleusenhaus from April 7 to May 1, 2019.

Working with the infrared camera has been a focus of the artist's work for several years now. She presents photographs taken during this time. But also very recent, new works. Like the two portrait-format motifs "Lighthouse" and "North Sea", these show the development of the last year from the emphatically landscape-oriented to clearly more graphic images. An exciting process that is also appealing to the viewer.

I owe the idea and realization of this picture series to a series of lucky coincidences: Through a contact study program at the University of Hamburg, I was able to take part in a literature seminar on the subject of "Magical Realism". Inspired by this and encouraged by my young fellow students, I looked for a possible realization of the theme.

Again, chance helped me. I saw infrared photos for the first time at a photographers' meeting and knew that this was the technology that would help me with the design. So I had one of my cameras modified, i.e. converted into an infrared camera.

Then the practice phase began; technique and image content had to match. I was quickly able to reactivate my experience from analog B/W photography and tackle the subject.
