With the infrared flash adapter, you can convert your existing flash unit into an infrared flash unit. To make the flash invisible to the human eye (and most animal eyes), strong IR filters from 830 nm are suitable. This blocks the visible light of the flash and only infrared radiation is emitted. With an IR-sensitive camera, the subject can be illuminated without disturbing the surroundings with the flash light. This illumination is particularly suitable for taking undisturbed photographs of shy animals and for automatic photo traps. When flashing, the flash unit is not 100% invisible despite the filter; a fraction of red light can penetrate the filter. A faint red glow can be seen when looking directly into the flash unit. However, the IR light emitted in the surroundings is absolutely visible.
We offer our adapters in 2 versions:
- With filter thread for regular screw-in filters with 67 mm Thread diameter: You can attach any IR filter (or other filters) to the adapter. The screw-in filters are screwed into a 67 mm aluminum socket. No filter is included in the scope of delivery.
- With permanently installed 850 nm infrared filter: The large glass thickness (3 mm), filter thickness (850 nm) and rectangular or round shape, depending on the type, provide optimum shielding of visible light and good light output even with large rectangular flash reflectors. The filter glass is permanently installed and cannot be replaced.
The base body of the adapter is manufactured using a 3D printing process with 100% recycled plastic. The plastic is dimensionally stable, waterproof and UV-stable even at high outside temperatures. Depending on the flash model, the connection to the flash is made either with 8 strong neodymium magnets, which provide a secure hold, or by sliding it precisely onto the flash unit.
Our infrared flash adapter does not fit all flash units, please check the compatibility of the adapter according to our list. If there is no compatible flash adapter for your flash unit, you can send us your flash unit and we will design an adapter exactly for your unit. Please select “I send my own flash” and send us the flash unit. We need approx. 14 days from the arrival of your flash to adapt it to your flash unit.
